Case study 2: Content management navigation

Improving the efficiency of creating teaching resources.

Project outline

Context

Oak National Academy is an independent public body, creating free online resources for teachers and pupils across the UK. This project involved improving the efficiency of the content & project management tool used to create educational lessons, to enable the smooth & timely production of digital learning resources. As the the product designer on an agile team, I collaborated with the research team to uncover key issues with the existing system, and led the design effort to make significant improvements to the user experience.

Phase 1: Understanding user pain points

Working closely with user research helped my team uncover the specific pain points with existing navigation & search, and informed our focused approach for the MVP. I designed and led a research synthesis and an HMW ideation workshop (How might we?) and as a team we collaboratively aligned on a focus for an MVP, which was to improve access to creating and editing lessons.
